Why we don't obsess over review scores

September 4, 2026 · Elias Hoffmann

People sometimes scroll straight to our rating and skip everything else. I get it, but it drives me a little mad, because the number is the least interesting part of what we write.

A 4.3 and a 4.5 are not meaningfully different. Both mean 'we liked this and here's why'. The useful information lives in the paragraphs — what the game does well, where it drags, who it's actually for.

We score things to give a quick sense of our overall feeling, not to rank games against each other on a precise scale. A relaxing puzzle game and a deep strategy campaign can both score well for completely different reasons.

So read the words. The score tells you we had an opinion; the review tells you whether that opinion matches what you're looking for.
